Posta Faroe Islands recently announced the introduction of its own non-fungible token collection (NFT), becoming another national postal service to do so.
This first collection of NFT-stamps is called Stamps of Maybe, with each physical stamp having a corresponding digital version stored on a blockchain.
A unique advantage for buyers and collectors is that they will be able to customise the appearance of the digital twin once it has been activated.
NFT-stamps from the Stamps of Maybe collection are connected to readings from the local weather station Veðurstova Føroya. When it is activated, current information about climate and atmospheric conditions will be used to create a one-of-a-kind digital version of the physical stamp. In this way, the owner of the NFT-stamp will control the timing of its activation and its design, thus creating a higher degree of exclusivity and collectibility.
Swiss Post, Emirates Post, France's La Poste, as well as the Netherlands' PostNL and Austria's Post AG recently unveiled NFT-stamp collections.
