A 30-year-old resident of Gorno-Altaysk, who works as a chief information security specialist at a local hospital, set up a mining farm in the room where the COVID-19 hospital was previously located.
"It was previously established that in February last year, experiencing financial difficulties, the suspect decided to master additional earnings in the form of mining Bitcoin cryptocurrency using a computer at home. Realizing that personal equipment does not meet the necessary requirements, he decided to move it to work," the Interior Ministry said.
The man connected the system unit to the hospital's server equipment and mined cryptocurrency for almost a year, illegally using electricity that was supplied for the needs of the medical institution. Thus, he caused material damage to the institution in the amount of about 400 thousand rubles.
The equipment was seized by law enforcement officers, and they also conducted searches at the suspect's place of residence and workplace.
A criminal case has been opened against an employee of a medical institution, he faces up to two years in prison.
