Apple ordered its staff not to use ChatGPT

Apple has ordered its staff not to use ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in any of its work-related activities because of the risk of exposing their data. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, referring to documents within the company that also state that employees cannot use ChatGPT and other similar AI tools until Apple develops its own artificial intelligence technology.

Moreover, employees have been banned from using Microsoft's Copilot software, which automates AI-powered code creation. The move was taken by Apple management because they fear that employees could leak confidential company information when using these programmes.

OpenAI, developers of ChatGPT, recently released an iOS app for their chatbot. This app synchronises conversations with the network and has voice input capability thanks to the open-source speech recognition model Whisper. The app will only be available to US residents, but they said they plan to expand it to other regions in the near future.

Similar to its browser-based counterpart, ChatGPT allows users to communicate with a virtual assistant without having to use the usual search system. The app is compatible with iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded from the US App Store.

Besides Apple, a number of other major corporations have banned the use of widespread chatbots. At the beginning of this month, Samsung issued an official notice to staff banning the use of generic AI programs, especially ChatGPT. These measures were taken after the company's employees posted the source code on the Internet.

In addition, some major banking institutions, including JPMorgan, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, have also banned the use of AI technology.
