The Solana ecosystem suffered from a hacker attack: more than 8000 crypto wallets were hacked and more than 8,000,000 dollars were stolen.
The OtterSec cryptanalyst reported that more than 5,000 wallets on Solana were emptied within a few hours. He noted that the transactions were "signed by the owners", so he assumed that the attackers somehow managed to compromise their private keys.
PeckShield experts have previously estimated a loss of $ 8 million.
It is reported that users of the Phantom, Trust Wallet and Slope mobile wallets on Solana, which were inactive for more than six months, were mainly affected. But it is also known about at least 51 hacking wallets on the Ethereum network.
In Solana and Phantom, users were recommended to transfer funds to hardware wallets. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao also advised sending assets to cold wallets or centralized exchanges.
How the hackers were able to carry out the attack is still unknown. Specialists are investigating, the information will be updated.
Solana blockchain is the fifth largest blockchain by total cost of blocking (TVL) according to DefiLlama — it attracts users with fast transactions and low fees. The price of the SOL token dropped by 4% in a few hours after the attack.
