FBI managed to stop malicious cryptocurrency website Hive

The US Department of Justice has reported that the FBI managed to stop the malicious cryptocurrency website Hive, which has damaged more than 1,500 people from more than 80 countries.

The FBI was assisted by German law enforcement agencies and the Dutch police and managed to seize control of Hive's servers and its portals, which were used to communicate between criminals. This will allow them not to carry out their cyber attacks and extortion for a certain time.

In July 2022, FBI agents infiltrated the Hive computer network and obtained decryption keys, which were distributed to victims without payment, so that they could reopen their files. A total of 300 keys were intercepted, with an estimated ransom value of $130 million.

Merrick Garland, the US attorney general, said law enforcement agencies would spare no resources when it came to finding those responsible for the attacks on American citizens in order to bring them to justice, as well as prevent further attacks and help victims of the hackers.

Unfortunately, no arrests have been made of those who created Hive or led the malware group, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their network and start spreading the malware around the world again.
