Police in the Indian capital New Delhi use blockchain

Bookmarks

The New Delhi Police use blockchain and DLT (distributed ledger technology) to enhance the efficiency of criminal investigations.

A representative of FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) said that the technology allows for secure storage of evidence from crime scenes, which will be divided into sections and protected against outside interference. It will not be possible to change existing information, so a new QR code block will have to be generated for any changes or additions. The system is expected to warn all relevant parties of an attempted unauthorised change, thereby increasing public confidence in the police.

Each month, FSL officers investigate about 1,500 crime scenes, and law enforcement agencies have to resort to traditional methods of inquest, which complicates the investigation procedure. In future, law enforcement officials of other states in India will be able to use DLT if the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) is updated accordingly.

In addition, in March 2022, the Dubai Police announced that they plan to introduce AI (artificial intelligence) and blockchain to prevent dangerous situations in public places.
