Rishi Sunak, UK Prime Minister, has announced a programme to develop artificial intelligence (AI) in the UK with an investment of £100 million (US$125 million).

As part of this initiative, a scholarship programme and expert group will be formed. The Prime Minister predicts that these finances will make the UK a hub for artificial intelligence technology.

Such important areas as agriculture and healthcare will benefit from this technology.

The Prime Minister said collaboration between research, education and international cooperation was important for the development of the UK's technology landscape.

He also mentioned his commitment to security research to allay any concerns about the risks associated with AI technology. Moreover, he talked about plans to organise an international summit dedicated to the topic.

Rishi Sunak revealed his strategy to collaborate with technology giants Google DeepMind, OpenAI and Anthropic. These corporations have agreed to give the British government early access to their AI programmes for research.

At the G7 meeting in Hiroshima, Sunak said AI can change and improve society in many ways.

In May, the UK Competition and Markets Authority launched an investigation into the AI industry.

Also in April, the Prime Minister announced £100 million to help develop 'sovereign AI'.
